Changing PM Approaches

Here’s a preview of the findings of our 2024 research report, The Adaptive Organization: A Benchmark of Changing Approaches to Project Management: It’s all good.

By that I mean, every one of the changing approaches we asked about correlated with higher organizational performance. Take a look:

Over 30% of organizations in the study use Project Management as a Service (PMaaS) strategies to improve resource management and project outcomes—but 35% of high-performing organizations do so.

AI in project management? A minority of organizations (18%) report they are currently using it, but high-performing organizations were more likely to employ AI than others (35%).

For the organizations using agile or hybrid approaches, the news is even better. Far more organizations are skilled at using agile or hybrid methods than in our previous study in 2018. Overall, the use of adaptive approaches has climbed by an average of 13%. But we didn’t only ask how many were using these approaches—we also asked participants to score themselves on their capability in using them. Nearly 80% of high-performing organizations rated their capability with hybrid approaches at 4 or above on a 5-point scale.

This is just a taste of the findings in this year’s study; for more, stay tuned for the release of our executive summary, coming out in early May. I’ll be discussing more data from the study here and on my blog, Projects & Strategy, in the coming weeks.
